Hola,
The beginning of a transfer is always a little different, but we started it off really good.
First of all, we went running every day (Tuesday - Saturday). That's the most consistent I've been with morning exercise my whole mission.
We had some pretty cool experiences this week. We got this referral from an investigator and tried to find them but we couldn't. This guy said we could come back. We forgot he said to wait until Saturday. We were going to go knocking in the same area so we stopped by and they invited us in. Long story short, this lady's son got shot and killed in Juarez 3 weeks ago and when she saw us the first time she knew we were sent from God. We taught her, her daughter, the daughter's husband, and the grandma about the Plan of Salvation. It was pretty amazing. Stuff like that doesn't happen in real life.
Then we also taught this lady who was a referral from 2 months ago that kept avoiding us. She showed up at a member's house while we were eating dinner, so we taught her and she likes us now.
We also had a lady come to Church for the first time that we've been teaching FOREVER. We took drastic measures to get her there. We may or may not have ding- dong-ditched cookies that said "venga a la iglesia". It worked. It wasn't my idea. She has a baptismal date now.
We actually have 3 dates now, and the less-active lady we've been working with keeps feeding us and she came to Church again with her 3 kids and 2 other kids. It's going to be a good transfer!

Hola,
Well, probably the biggest news of the week is that I've started using after-shave. I like it. Last P-day we were at the store and I saw after-shave and I didn't really know what its purpose was, (I still don't), so I bought some to try it out. I feel pretty mature.
Other big news is that we got texting on our phones. It's weird.
Less important news, I'm staying in Canutillo with Elder Thomas. Its' the first time I've ever stayed with a companion for more than one transfer.
Canutillo has been treating us pretty nicely. We finally had someone come to Church on Sunday -- a less active part member family we found knocking. It was awesome.
Update on the dog bite Sister: She spent the week in Las Cruces with her Aunt and Uncle and is doing a lot better. Sister Good came and spent the week here, and as of tomorrow she'll be back home in Idaho. Our Sisters are getting white washed. Two of the biggest Elders in the mission are coming to the area where the dog bite happened. Love it! Also, Elder Steed is going to Albequerque, sad. But we'll have a pretty cool district this transfer. Transfers go by sooo fast these days. I can't believe it.
Tell everyone about www.mormon.org. Get a profile. Ask your missionaries about it.

Hola,
Our week was a good one. The Fast for sure helped us out. We found some pretty cool people this week. We found this family with a super less-active wife who wants to come back and a non-member husband who is great. They have three little kids. They fed us ribs for our first visit! They had some crazy stuff happen to them and so they came over from Juarez about six months ago. I'm excited for them.
We had quite an adventure Saturday night. I won't go into too much detail because it's a very long story...but one of the Sister missionaries got attacked by a pit bull. We spent a long, long time in the hospital and didn't get home until past our bedtimes. That Sister is a trooper, though. She ended up with 16 stitches and she came to church the next day! Our investigators have no excuse for not coming to church now.
As of last night, I have 144 bottle caps.
I gave a talk in Sacrament meeting yesterday (in Spanish). Our little Planning Session where we came up with the idea for a Fast for missionary work has snowballed into a stake-wide Fast next Fast Sunday!
Transfer calls are this weekend.
I hope you will all keep Sister Jarmin and the Oregon Ducks in your prayers today!!

Hola!
IT SNOWED!!!!!!! It's been freezing. S.N.O.W. I couldn't believe it.
2011! We had a pretty good week this week. Same old, same old. Triple birthday district meeting celebration. Elder Steed turned 21 on the 19th, then I turned 20, and our Zone Leader turned 21 yesterday so we had cake at district meeting.
Speaking of food, I've eaten one tomale almost everyday for over a week.
The branch had a New Year's Eve party this past week. Elder Steed asked President if we could go and he said, "Yeah, sure, just as long as you're home by 9:30pm". "Ummm, the party doesn't start until 10:00pm...". "ABSOLUTELY NOT". We didn't go. In fact, I was so tired I didn't even stay up until midnight. I'm kind of a party pooper.
On Thursday, we had weekly planning and we went into it not very excited. But for the first time on my mission I had revelation during weekly planning. We set up a Fast for fast Sunday. We came up with a message and then went around to every member in our area to Fast for the missionary work but more for the people in the area that are lost/looking for the truth and are ready. It was awesome. I got really pumped. During the weekly planning, Elder Thomas said, "We should fast". Then I said, "We should just start right now. I just ate a ton of pancakes". We both didn't really wanna start then so we decided to get other people to Fast with us. But to be honest, it was awesome and we got a lot of support. I have no doubt we are going to see some miracles.

Hola,
Christmas 2010 is in the books. I'm 20 years old...and I hit a year in 2 days. It's been a monumental couple of weeks!
It was great talking to the family on Christmas Eve. I'm glad that after a year away everyone is still hanging in there.
For Christmas Eve, we worked during the day and in the evening we went and visited a few members and ate a bunch of food. Our Branch President hooked us up with UTEP baseball hats. Then I talked to the fambam.
On Christmas, we just took it easy in the morning. We opened presents. BTW, thanks to everyone! Then we went out and visited a family we are teaching. We knew they weren't going to have much of a Christmas so we tried to make it fun. They live in this little apartment complex so we brought sidewalk chalk and drew the Plan of Salvation on the pavement and literally walked them through it. It was pretty cool. Afterwards, we just drew in the parking lot. My companion is an artist and did a pretty amazing Jesus head. They loved it and they told us it was the best gift they received. Also, everyone in their apartment complex now sees the Plan of Salvation everyday. It's not going to rain anytime soon so it will be there for awhile.
My companion really wanted to knock doors on Christmas and I was a little reluctant but we did it anyway and it was way cool. Everyone was in a good mood so it was good and we got a few return appointments. Then we went to dinner and ate a ton of ham and tamales. We had ham 3 days in a row and have like a whole one in the fridge. So that was Christmas. Beautiful weather.
For my birthday, we just did regular P-day stuff. I made chocolate chip pancakes. We played a lot of ball. Then I got taken out to dinner by Brother Marshall who knows the family. We to Famous Daves! Then we went and saw the family who we did the chalk art with and they bought me a cake and sang to me so that was way nice. All the kids' friends were over so it actually felt like a birthday party.
2011 is going to be a good year.

Hola!
We had a pretty good week last week. Honestly, I don't remember everything. We had a cool Family Home Evening at the church on Tuesday. Elder Thomas and I were in charge of the activity. We made tree ornaments with the kids and we gave everyone a Book of Mormon to give away as a Christmas gift.
Today I'm on exchanges with Elder Cuello. We have too much fun together. Last night we saw the eclipse. It was way cool.
I was sick for a couple days last week with major sinus pressure and stuff but I got over it pretty quick. I think I ended up with a sinus infection afterwards but I got hooked up. One of the perks of being so close to the border is the fact that we can get Mexican drugs. One of our investigators gave me some antibiotic stuff.
Speaking of antibiotics, I got bit by a freaking dog!! It was our landlord's dog! It's huge! It's a long story but basically the dog was being okay then turned on me for no reason.
Also, we had the ward Christmas party this week. It was actually pretty nice. Lots of food and a couple performances. And of course, a pinata. We had 8 people come. One investigator that we've been teaching for a while, a new investigator that was referred to us by the other one, another investigator (the one that gave me the drugs) and her two daughters, their two cousins, and a friend. We always bring the party. Tomorrow we have our Christmas Zone Conference and free flu shots. I love it.
BTW...this is my last email as a teenager!

Hola,
This past week was a weird one with transfers and everything. My new companion is Elder Thomas from Washington. He’s a good kid. He’s been out about 6 months. We'll be good together -- we’ve got that Northwest vibe going on.
Things in Canutillo are going alright. I want some new investigators. We’ve got good people that like to talk to us but just don’t want to do anything, so we’ve been working on finding. There is a swap meet that is just around the corner from us and next week were going to set up the Corolla, pop the trunk, and try some proselyting over there. It will be something creative, so we’ll see.
I’ve realized how much I love the members here. They’re awesome. They love us and they show it, especially now at Christmas time.
They had the pinewood derby this past week and we went. It was amazing, pure adrenaline and yelling.
The natives have been doing some crazy virgin worshiping these past few days. They dress up like Indians, beat drums, play maracas, howl and dance in front of a huge picture of the virgin de Guadalupe. It’s weird. It felt like something out of the Book of Mormon. Alma chapter 31.
